CESAM (Centre of Environmental and Marine Studies) is an Associated Laboratory of the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. CESAM is a multi- and interdisciplinary research unit, including researchers from 5 Departments of the UA (Environment & Planning, Biology, Physics, Chemistry,and Geosciences) and also members from the University of Lisbon.
CESAM’s mission is to develop leading international research on environmental sciences and related risks, including extreme weather events and climate change, with a special emphasis on complex socio-ecological coastal systems and marine areas. The objective is to promote a more efficient use of terrestrial and aquatic (from catchment to the deep sea) environmental resources, bearing in mind the global changes already visible, and a more competitive, resilient and sustainable economy, designed to endorse job creation and to assure territorial and social cohesion.
