Biodiversity Knowledge
Organizers: Carsten Neßhöver & Marie Vandewalle
When: Monday 15 April 2013, afternoon
Duration: 0.5 day
The area of biodiversity and ecosystem services faces some major challenges when it comes to linking science and policy. With the new Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the area has now a new chance for further integration and exchange on the global level. With the implementation needs for the 2020 Biodiversity strategy, at the same time we also need action on this integration in Europe.
The side event will discuss the approach for this regional challenge called BiodiversityKnowledge. Acknowledging the wide diversity of knowledge holders in the field, the initiative aims at developing a concept that ensures a transparent, credible knowledge flow to better address client’s requests.
Over the past 2 years, the BiodiversityKnowledge project, in a broad consultation with knowledge holders and potential clients has developed a prototype, which will be out for additional consultation in spring 2013.
The session will first present the BiodiversityKnowledge approach in short, concise talks and then give the opportunity for discussing major issues related to governance of the structure, involvement and acknowledgment, quality control and other main challenges.
