VU-IVM was created in 1971 as an interdisciplinary institute and has built up considerable experience and expertise in dealing with complex environmental problems. The institute is part of VU University Amsterdam and has special expertise in ecosystem services research, both including the mapping and quantification of service provision as well as the economic valuation of these services. In addition, the institute has strong capacity in the analysis and modelling of land use, climate adaptation and earth system governance.
